MA 101 Patient Care Techniques


Prerequiste: Acceptance into the Medical Assisting Certificate program (recommended)
2 lecture hours, 4 lab hours: 4 credit hours
This course provides students with a foundation in both clinical and administrative aspects of medical assisting. Emphasis is placed on patient care skills, including obtaining vital signs, measuring height and weight, charting pediatric growth, and assisting with the complete physical exam through proper positioning and draping techniques. Students also explore effective communication strategies, interpersonal relations, and basic psychology to better understand and respond to patients’ psychosocial needs. Key concepts in medical law and ethics are introduced, along with an overview of essential administrative office procedures performed by medical assistants.
