EMS 245 Trauma Prerequisite: Successful completion of EMS 241, EMS 242, EMS 243, and EMS 244 with a grade of “C” or better. Current/active National or State License as a EMT-Basic or EMT-Intermediate. 3 lecture hours, 2 lab hours: 4 credit hours This 4-credit hour course introduces the student to different emergency situations and the pathophysiology involved with trauma emergencies. This class will provide the student with the advanced assessment, recognition and management capabilities, stressing advanced clinical decision making. Fractures, soft tissue injuries, and blunt and penetrating trauma to all body regions will be discussed and thoroughly explored. Kinematics and anticipated injury patterns will be discussed. Cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning is used during this course. Emergency Department, Fast Track, Respiratory and Intensive Care Unit Clinical rotations will be completed. Provisional field calls will continue.
