EMS 241 EMS Foundations


Prerequisite: Current/active National or State License as an EMT-Basic or EMT-Intermediate and acceptance into Paramedic Program.
2.5 lecture hours, 1 lab hour: 3 credit hours
This 3-credit hour course introduces the student to the paramedic’s role as a healthcare professional, ethics, stress management, illness and injury prevention, documentation and communications, medical and legal issues, research principles and evidence-based practice. Observation on field ambulance calls is introduced. Observation of a dispatch center and the interaction of call-taking and emergency dispatch is learned. Cognitive and affective learning is used during this course.
