Pre-Nursing, A.A.

A registered nurse (RN) supervises, teaches and delegates nursing care to health team members and delivers direct care and treatment. The RN also prepares patients for surgery, administers intravenous therapy, establishes patient care plans, assesses and evaluates patient needs, and supervises nursing care. Students who earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing are also licensed RN’s by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. For optimum transfer, students should take courses in chemistry, math, and humanities.

Suggested Curriculum

I. General Education Core (38-39)

Area A: Communication (9 credits)

ENG 101 Composition I 3 hrs transfer credit - with a grade of C or better
ENG 102 Composition II 3 hrs transfer credit - with a grade of C or better
COMM 101 Principles of Communication 3 hrs transfer credit

Area B: Humanities and Fine Arts (9 credits)

Select three courses from the list for Area B with at least one course from humanities and one from fine arts.

Area C: Mathematics (3 credits)

MATH 115 General Education Statistics 3 hrs transfer credit

Area D: Physical and Life Sciences (8-9 credits)

BIOL 111 Cellular and Molecular Biology 4 hrs transfer credit
CHEM 105 Survey of General Chemistry 4 hrs transfer credit or
CHEM 110 General Chemistry I 5 hrs transfer credit
Check with the university you are considering to choose the appropriate level of chemistry

Area E: Social and Behavioral Sciences (9 credits)

Select three courses in at least two different disciplines from the list for Area E including:
