Suggested Curriculum

This curriculum is designed for students who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in such fields as behavioral science, and sociology. The Sociology transfer program provides students with a broad, general education background and prepares them for the specialized coursework undertaken during the last two years of a bachelor’s degree. Students are strongly encouraged to complete the Associate in Arts degree prior to transfer.

I. General Education Core (37-39)

Area A: Communication (9 credits)

ENG 101 Composition I 3 hrs transfer credit - with a grade of C or better
ENG 102 Composition II 3 hrs transfer credit - with a grade of C or better
COMM 101 Principles of Communication 3 hrs transfer credit

Area B: Humanities and Fine Arts (9 credits)

Select three courses from the list for Area B with at least one course from humanities and one from fine arts.

Area C: Mathematics (3-4 credits)

Select one math course from:

MATH 115 General Education Statistics 3 hrs transfer credit
MATH 153 Probability and Statistics 4 hrs transfer credit
MATH 155 Finite Mathematics 4 hrs transfer credit

Area D: Physical and Life Sciences (7-8 credits)

Select one life science course and one physical science course from the list for Area D . One course must have a lab component.

Area E: Social and Behavioral Sciences (9 credits)

Select three courses in at least two different disciplines from the list for Area E including:

ANTHR 215 Introduction to Anthropology 3 hrs transfer credit recommended
or
ANTHR 222 Introduction to Cultural and Social Anthropology 3 hrs transfer credit recommended
SOCIO 101 Introduction to Sociology 3 hrs transfer credit

II. Area of Concentration/Major Field (9)

Select up to three courses from:

SOCIO 111 Contemporary Social Issues 3 hrs transfer credit
SOCIO 210 Marriage and the Family 3 hrs transfer credit
SOCIO 215 Sex, Gender, and Power 3 hrs transfer credit
SOCIO 220 Race Relations: A Multicultural Perspective 3 hrs transfer credit

III. Electives (15-16)
